A recent study shows that most pregnancy-related heart failure occurs during the first six weeks after the baby is born.
That’s an issue because usually women are discharged a few days after they deliver and don’t go back to their doctor for six weeks, so important symptoms could be missed.
The number of pregnancy-related maternal deaths has more than doubled between 1987 and 2011.
