A pair of new research networks will probe into two areas of heart health — obesity and children, the American Heart Association said Friday.

The new focus areas, approved by the Board of Directors, make up the sixth- and seventh-funded Strategically Focused Research Networks. A network comprises three to four institutions (or centers) working on three projects each that are focused on one strategic area. The AHA has funded other research networks studying prevention, hypertension, disparities, women and heart failure.

The centers are funded by a $15 million grant from the AHA.

Work at the new networks is expected to begin in spring 2017. Details will be released this summer.
