Macy’s and the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women program are teaming up to offer Thank-A-Mom cards that will help teach moms, sisters and friends about heart disease, the leading killer of women.

For each card sent through Facebook, Macy’s will donate $2, up to $400,000, to one of five chosen charities. From April 28 to May 11 – Mother’s Day.

Last year, Go Red For Women supporters sent 50,000 cards. The program has about $195,000 in donations since 2011.

“Join Go Red For Women and Macy’s by sending e-cards to the mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends in your life,” Bernie Dennis, chairman of the American Heart Association board of directors said in a news release about the program. “The more cards sent on behalf of Go Red For Women, the more vital funds raised to help ensure future generations of mothers won’t have to battle heart disease as their No.1 killer.”

The five charities benefiting from Macy’s Thank-A-Mom movement include:

  • Go Red For Women
  • The Make-A-Wish Foundation
  • Reading Is Fundamental
  • National Parks Foundation
  • Futures Without Violence

In addition to supporting the program through Thank-A-Mom, Macy’s is a national sponsor of Go Red For Women.
