People with diabetes are two to four times more likely than others to suffer from heart disease or stroke. To help them prepare nutritious foods, the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association recently published a revised edition of their Diabetes & Heart Healthy Cookbook.

Making healthy food choices, including controlling portion sizes and reading food labels, is an essential step in maintaining a healthy weight and preventing or managing diabetes, according to the AHA. A heart-healthy diet includes foods that are low in fat, cholesterol, and sodium.

The cookbook offers more than 160 recipes designed to meet nutrition recommendations of the AHA and ADA.  It also gives health information and a week’s worth of sample meal plans.

This second edition includes large, colorful photographs and updated nutritional analyses, including potassium and phosphorus, for every recipe.
