Are you a biker?

No, I don’t mean the leather-clad, long-haired, V-twin revving motorcycle biker. I mean the bell-ringing, spandex-rocking, trail-riding, Tour de France, Dallas, or Small Town USA cyclist.

Why do we ask? Because today is National Bike to Work Day! So, if you bike to work, we’re giving you a chance to prove it. Take a photo of yourself with your blinged-out Huffy (or whatever your super-slick ride is). Then post the image to Instagram with the hashtag #HeartPics.

Do you ride through a beautiful park or down a hill with the breeze blowing through your hair? Does your bike have an awesome rack or is it basket-clad, vintage and special? Show us what makes your commute or bike special.

If you remember, earlier this year, 18-year-old Allison Koch biked 2,200 miles to raise money for the American Heart Association and raise awareness of heart health. If she can do it, so can you… maybe not the full 2,200 miles without lots of training, but a few miles to work or around your neighborhood? Sure!

According to a survey compiled by the 2010 American Community Survey, more than 730,000 American ride their bikes to work. If work is too far of a ride or your in a high-traffic, biker-unfriendly area, then find a bike month special event near you.

The American Heart Association recommends getting the equivalent of at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic physical activity per week. It helps your heart, brain, stress level and you can make some friends along the way.

So, get out on the open road or off the beaten path and show us how you roll! Where is your favorite spot to bike?
